Tug For Truth – Economics and Innovation

Tug For truth – Economics and Innovation aims to support students explore and discuss the ethical considerations connected to innovating and developing economic systems/activities.

Students are invited to use the visible thinking routine ‘Tug for Truth’ to uncover ideas that can inform decision making in the supply and demand process. Students will have to explore and be prepared to debate, justify and reflect on the different positions people take when making, selling or consuming products and services.

Some of the conversation starters include

  • People should only buy what they need
  • People should be allowed to make money because everybody needs money.
  • Everyone should make the same choices when creating, buying or selling things, then things would be better.
  • People who innovate and create, always learn from their mistakes.

Joining in with a debate or a discussion with people who hold different ideas, beliefs or perspectives of our own can be challenging. However it can also help us explore alternative perspectives and develop our own thinking. It can help us challenge what we believe and either reaffirm this ethical connection with a richer understanding of why it is important to us or invite us to step into a new position and explore new possibilities
