In the PYP: Principles to Practice, skills are listed are approaches to teaching. The skills listed by the IB PYP are transdisciplinary skills, that can be used in and across specific subjects and disciplines. There are five main skill categories. Within each of these categories there are skill groups and these are further broken down into suggested sub-skill groups .

In the PYP: Principles to Practice, skills are listed are approaches to teaching.   • Thinking Skills: Four skill group cards, Thirteen subskill cards
  • Social Skills: Two skill group cards, Eight subskill cards
  • Research Skills: Three skill group cards, Twelve subskill cards
  • Communication Skills: Three skill group cards, Eight subskill cards
  • Self-management Skills: Two skill group cards, Nine subskill cards

Each illustration can be used to form part of a learning narrative where students begin to name and describe learning processes and choices, using the illustration as a prompt or a clue. Using visuals encourages students to:

  • Identify and discuss ideas and possible actions related to the image
  • To connect and engage with their own prior knowledges and experiences
  • Use visual information as a tool for clue finding and a stepping off point for their own decision making

This resource should not substitute carefully reading and comprehension of the PYP Principles into Practice resources and training being offered by the IBO.
