When exploring ideas about human migration, one must be thoughtful not to categorize everyone who is moving from one place to another as simply a migrant. The subtleties in how we name people who are on the move hide the levels of power, choice and the ability to respond, so understanding the naming system is critical to developing a greater awareness and appreciation of who people are and under what circumstances they are moving. It brings forward the choice and resilience practices that keep different groups moving and other groups from welcoming, resisting or being wary of change.

A set of research and question cards based around the IB PYP key concepts. Learners can choose a a concept card to help them focus and guide and their inquiries. Each concept has three cards with different levels of questioning. The questions are

  • Right There questions – When we ask these questions we are looking for information that is easily accessible or visible.
  • Think and Search questions- When we ask these questions we are looking for information that is in the book but we need to connect ideas or draw conclusions.
  • On Your Own questions – When we ask these questions we are looking for people to share judgments or opinions. The answers are about exploring big ideas or underlying messages
