This version of the Inquiry Journal ABC is simplified for students who are younger, have ELS needs or other learning requirements that require simplified text.

Included in the resource:

  • Two initial pages for planning thinking processes and activating prior knowledge
  • A page for each step in ABCDEF inquiry model, that includes a section for reflecting on the skills and attitudes used or needed at this stage of the inquiry.

You can rely on BeConWiz to give you what you and your students need.

Inquiry journals are a great tool for scaffolding an inquiry, while leaving room for student agency in the process. This ABC inquiry process is also ideal for developing and exploring conflict or friendship problems.

This journal has been developed around the Inquiry ABC model, inviting students to consider the different choices they can make during an inquiry.

The journal can be printed in A4 size or the pages can be printed on A3 or in poster size and used to model the process to a whole class or smaller group. Students can then use this modelling experience to adapt and create their own resource journal.

The INQUIRY ABC process includes

  • A – Ask questions
  • B- brainstorm
  • C- Choose
  • D- Do
  • E- Evaluate
  • F – Forward thinking

At the beginning of the inquiry process, students are invited to predict the style of thinking they will need to engage with during this inquiry process. It could be that one or more thinking styles is needed depending on the type of inquiry.
